El Kantara ,in the old days Calceus Herculis is one of daïras in the province of Biskra in Algeria. It is an oasis located in the southwest of the Aures, 50 kilometers north of biskra and 50 kilometers of Batna.

El Kantara is a small very quiet locality (of 10,000 inhabitants). It is full of contrasts.

It snows about twenty kilometers to the north (winter) and majestic of sand dunes are some sixty kilometers further south where summer temperatures can sometimes reach almost 50°C.
