Built between 1067 and 1071, Bab El Fuka is flanked by two turrets still visible where the guards could monitor the surroundings, and probably topped by a royal court where the Sultan could admire the arrival of caravans and welcome guests choices.

This door has two openings, the most authentic is the one that is on the left when you come from outside the city, while the right one was heavily reworked by the French.

Also built during the reign of Sultan By Nacer, the walls were as a huge surrounding wall, flanked by guard towers and contained six access doors.

The enclosure formed a vast triangle whose base ran along the sea and the top located some 663 meters above sea level and overlooking the golf course in the city of Bejaia (eg Candle).

Today there are only a few traces of these walls, the most visible are those that appear in the structures of the former: Philippe market and those on the territory of Gouraya National Park, these ramparts, indisputable evidence of the past the glorious capital of Hammadites.
